The Display That Didn't Win!

Circa 1965

My first sales job was with the Quaker Oats Company. To introduce our new cereals, and to

feature our company's support for The Junior Olympics, the company had a contest. The best and most creative display featuring, Quisp and Quake, would win a prize and national recognition.

I put together what I would call a "memorable display" with the help of my friend Freddy,

a Piggly Wiggly stock boy. He wasn't exactly what you would call 'a dazzler'. But I thought my display certainly was a show stopper. I didn't win! . . . maybe because I insisted on being Freddy's personal stylist instead of a hiring a professional.

Every day we're all building personal displays with our lives. Are we building them with "sugary cereals and silly things that will soon fade away and have no eternal value"?

Or are we building a more meaningful life of faith, love, loyalty, character and integrity?

Rather than trusting in your personal sufficiency, trust the sovereignty of God as your foundation.

A wise man builds his house on the rock and when the rains and winds come, it will not fall because it was founded on the rock. Matthew 7:24
