Common Sense

Common Sense is not so common. It is something that we all believe we possess, but rarely, are we able to explain it.

Common Sense is the ability to think and behave in a reasonable way and to make good decisions. Often each person’s idea of common sense is uniquely their own!

Common Sense is very often misused as a tactic to put others down by portraying them as being mistaken or ignorant. It should never be used as an insult. When we accuse others of not using Common Sense, we generally intended to mock them, or win them over as potential supporters for our criticism.

If you don't have personal experience, you are not able to reasonably argue or support your version of common sense. Common Sense may vary from person to person based on their experiences and stages of life. It is not a thing you can inherit from anyone. You need to build up Common Sense yourself.

Common Sense is enhanced for many people not necessarily by the degree of their education. It's the ability to perceive and discern a situation quickly and accurately based on previous life experiences. Someone said: 'In our digital age, many experiences are virtual rather than tangible. This detachment from the physical world can sometimes hinder our ability to use Common Sense.

As we get older, looking back on the decisions we have made might help us in our own quest for Common Sense. As we go through life, we are bound to have regrets, but you can use your mistakes and corrections as a reference to build your own Common Sense.

We can also learn so much from the Common Sense of others that have traveled this path before us. Their experiences may provide us with a roadmap!

Just because large groups of people may have the same opinions, does not necessarily mean they are using Common Sense.   And just because they may hold high educational degrees from prestigious universities such as Princeton, Yale, Harvard or my alma mater --

Durham Institute of Barbering -- does not guarantee Common Sense.

Most importantly 'the Common Sense-claim ' must be supported by logic!

Large groups don't necessarily incubate Common Sense. . . . . for example, POLITICS!

But we all know that!
